Yes i guess i do

I do eat my feelings. I'm broekn hearted right now and the only thing i can think of is having a cupcake to make me happier. I sit here in the same library i use to come in and wait for Justin in. I use to use the computer and wait for his shining face to come through those doors. Then i would greet him with a kiss and we would go and eat or do something fun together as lovers. Now it is october 12th and i just want to cry because i know i'll sit here he wont come. I will never see his beautiful face again or here his ensuring voice again. I miss him and he will never come back. I guess i'll go fatten myself up with a cupcake and cry it out, man i am truly broken hearted...

The Mood Food

I know that many of you have heard the saying you are what you eat and frankly i think this saying is very true. During my lunch break i wondered if there were any foods that would aid in my brain function, since i have  test coming up in an hour. I researched and found lots great ways to improve your brain as well as your mood.
  1. Water (which is my favorite)- It helps to keep you hydrated which can cure fatigue after exercise
  2. Berries is also great, they contain complex carbohydrates which can give you energy to last you a while
  3. Cheese (who doesn't love cheese?- unless you are lactose intolerant)- it contains amino acids which is also great for your brain.
  4. Hot cocoa (who would of thought) =), it gives a strong antioxidant punch which is great
  5. Turkey is for those with bad sleep patterns (like me)- it contains tryptophan which can help induce sleep
  6. Red wine!!- it contains antioxidants and dopamine which improves the mood 
  7. On the flip side energy drinks can mess up your sleep pattern

An addiction other than alcohol, drugs or sex

             There are so many addictions that are out there. It can either be cigarettes, alcohol or just plain sex. But there is an addiction that goes unnoticed more than anything else and that is PICA. PICA is a condition in which an individual ingests foreign items in place of food. Items can consist of paper, dirt, toothbrushes, needles, soap, paint, nail polish and many other substances.The individual may be embarrassed to come out with their addiction. If the addiction is found the person can be ridiculed by other loved ones and friends. Because the addiction isn't quite understood by the general public, people will give advice like "Just stop eating it" or "Why can't you just stop?" This leaves the individual in a situation where they feel ashamed, cast out and alone. Well, I'm here to bring awareness to this very real medical condition. A person is often deemed as mentally unfit, feeble minded or just plain weird because people can't understand the addiction. 
            Often this condition occurs when the body is in a deficit of a certain mineral or substance in the body. For example, if the body is in a deficit of salt your cravings may consist of french fries, which in return replenishes the salt lost in the body. But then if the body is in a deficit of iron the body may not immediately recognize it. The body may need a certain mineral and the body will get this from any source. Tree bark which is then turned into paper contains high levels of iron in it. So then the body may start to crave paper instead of a vitamins, which is the healthier option. This results in a paper addiction. It is important for the public not to judge these people so harshly. If we can make programs for drugs and alcohol victims that show compassion and understanding, then why can't we make programs to support people in a PICA related addiction? “Forget love, I'd rather fall in chocolate.”

This quote is interesting because i find it kind of like an irony. So we all know that valentines day is a day geared towards showing love to one another...at least that is what they show in all the movies. So people come up with all these different ways to show their love, by spending a fortune on organic flowers, handmade chocolates and dinner at a restaurant that charges 50 dollars for a piece of fish that is only 3 inches wide and sits in the middle of your plate surrounded by lettuce. Then we have the people who show their love by writing poetry (my favorite), love letters and taking their loved ones to Starbucks for a cup of coffee and cuddle on the lounge. But are these things truly showing us love? I mean what happens after valentines day? After that extravagant dinner you go home and argue about the same old cap being left off the toothpaste. Or when the cuddling session is over you go back to not even looking at each other because of a hidden secret. I believe valentines day is just a day for people to put up fake persona's and try to make up for what they don't do on a regular basis. The of the quote "Forget love, I'd rather fall in chocolate"  can be taken in a humorous sense but it can also be taken as something deeper. People are starting to rely on items to profess their love to one another (which is fine) but if there is no emotional connection everyday, then valentines day is meaningless. If i wasn't being treated right by my boyfriend i would say Forget Love, Bring On The Chocolate!!

My 600 pound life

I was watching television one day and i saw a show about people who are 600 pounds and eating themselves away. Many of them came from different backgrounds and had many different stories to how they got the way they are. So one question came to my mind, Do people eat according to how they are feeling?  I know that when i'm feeling fat i would go eat an apple and drink like a gallon of water. But when i'm feeling ethnic (I'm African American) I will go eat fried chicken, sweet potatoes and drink sweet tea. The issues with over eating is deeper then a thought or a feeling, its about the self esteem of a person. The people on the show "my 600 pound life" is likely suffering from self esteem issues, which probably started with feelings of rejection or abandonment which led them to eat as a coping strategy. This resulted in the way they are now, with eating now an addiction. So my conclusion to this question is people do eat according to how they feel.
